Every year the Boise sky is lit up with illuminated balloons as walkers partake in the Light the Night Walk. Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) nationwide evening walk to build awareness of blood cancers and raise funds for cures. Walkers carry illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.
This years walk is on Thursday, October 2 at Ann Morrison Park by the Fountain. Registration, food and entertainment start at 5:00pm and the 2 mile walk starts at 7:00pm.
The funds raised by the walk support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission to cure the blood cancers of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Blood cancers are the second most fatal form of cancer, second only to lung cancer. Someone is newly diagnosed with a blood cancer every 5 minutes. Every 10 minutes a child or adult loses the fight.
Last year, LLS invested $66.5 million to support more than 396 researchers and projects in 15 countries on five continents. LLS also provides financial assistance to patients; sponsors scientific conferences around the country; produces educational materials and videos; and runs dozens of Family Support Groups nationwide.
The walk is designed for families and is a casual walk with no fitness requirements. Strollers, wheelchairs, and pets are welcome. However, for everyone’s safety, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, and scooters are not allowed.
There is no cost to register, but individual and team participants are asked to raise money for their walk.
To register, call 208-658-6662 or go to www.lighthenight.org/id..
