One of the most exciting and scariest times in your life just may be when you are expecting the birth of the newest addition to your family. We are bombarded with information and stories these days of health care crises that families face, and we wonder what we would do if that were to happen to us.
Luckily, the March of Dimes is there. In 1938, it was formally organized to help fight poliomyelitis, an especially virulent disease that struck hundreds of thousands of children around the world every year. With the advent of vaccines in 1952 and 1962, made possible with March of Dimes funding, the disease is now well on its way to eradication.
Spurred by its success with fighting polio, for the last 29 years the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation has focused on helping families facing premature birth and birth defects. They provide substantial education programs to pregnant women to give them the tools they need to give birth to healthy babies and prevent birth defects.
The Idaho chapter of the March of Dimes works with local hospitals and clinics to provide prenatal care and education. They are a substantial help in making sure our neighbors give their children the best start possible.
You can support the Idaho chapter of the March of Dimes at the upcoming Blue Jean Ball on Friday, October 10 at the Otter Ranch in Star. Break out your best jeans and tuxedo jacket or sequins for a festive night with the best barbecue in town. Join the Governor and First Lady in bidding on fly fishing, hunting and golfing items as well as fabulous nights on the town!
Tickets are $175 each or a table for 10 of $1000. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 336-5438 or email rcarnot@marchofdimes.com.
