When you think of the color pink, what does it conjure up for you? For many it has come to symbolize the mothers, aunts, sisters, daughters and friends who have struggled with breast cancer. Through the iconic pink ribbons associated with the Susan B. Komen Foundation, the color has been shaped in our society to symbolize hope, celebration, and remembrance in the fight against breast cancer.
The founders of Think Pink, Inc. (www.thinkpinkboise.com) have taken that imagery and run with it. Starting in 2004 while training for half-marathon, four Northwest women designed a t-shirt with a picture of a lacy bra and the words “Support the ones you love”. Sales from the t-shirt prompted them to start Think Pink, Inc., a non-profit organization that raises money to benefit breast cancer research and education.
They now carry two t-shirts: their signature “Save the Boobs” t-shirt and a “Hope” t-shirt featuring a pink bird.
100% of funds raised are directly donated to the Boise Affiliate of The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The funds are used to provide research grants and uninsured women in the area with mammograms, an essential tool in early detection.
On Saturday, November 8th, Think Pink, Inc. is holding its first large fundraising event in Boise. Local musicians, Dan Costello, Ned Evett, Bill Coffey and Smooth Old Fashioned High will perform at the Visual Arts Collective (www.visualartscollective.com) at the “Concert for the Cure.”
Raffle prizes and drink specials will be offered, in addition to the opportunity to purchase “Save the Boobs” t-shirts and commemorative concert t-shirts. The first 50 attendees will receive pink feather boas.
Doors open at 7pm and the concert starts at 8pm. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The event is for ages 21 and over.
