We got news today of a prime example of collaboration among our local nonprofits. The Idaho Humane Society, Idaho Foodbank and Meals on Wheels are teaming together to help feed our community's pets.
The Humane Society started seeing a huge uptick in the number of families who were dropping their pets off because they could no longer afford to feed them. In some cases, these families were going without food themselves to purchase food for their pets. The Humane Society brought in the Foodbank and Meals on Wheels - organizations that already have sophisticated distribution channels - to find a way to collect pet food and then get it out to the families in need.
The result? Hopefully more pets will stay healthy and with their families.
The organizations will be coming together to inform the community about this on Monday.
Looking for a way you can help?
Collection sites have been established all over Ada County (we'll try to get that list up here). The food will be collected and stored at Camp Bow Wow near
the Foodbank.
Only sealed bags or canned food please.
