As our society continues to meld into a homogenous blend, there are a few pioneers who continue to wave the flag of independence. Nowhere is that more important than in the media. And no one does it quite like Amy Goodman, host of the national television and radio news program Democracy Now!
Goodman will be in Boise for a speaking event and book signing this Thursday at The Linen Building Event Center. The event will begin at 7 p.m. with all ticket proceeds benefiting Boise Community Radio.
Goodman’s latest book, "Standing Up To The Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times" (http://tour.democracynow.org), co-written with investigative journalist and brother, David Goodman, looks at the ways in which grassroots activists across the country have taken politics out of the hands of politicians.
Democracy Now!, is carried on over 750 TV and radio stations, including Boise Community Radio.
Founded in 2002, Boise Community Radio currently is broadcasting over the Internet at www.RadioBoise.org. With the goal of cultivating a stronger sense of place in the Treasure Valley, Boise Community Radio features independent, locally programmed, music and issues-oriented content that is commercial free and operated entirely by volunteers.
Authorized to broadcast on 89.9 FM in 2008, Boise Community Radio is conducting a capital campaign to purchase equipment necessary to initiate a terrestrial radio signal.
Tickets to the event are $10 for adults/$5 for students and are available at the door.
