When you choose a piece of art to decorate your home, you will live with that piece for years. What if every time you looked at that item, you were reminded of the care and work that went into making it, knowing that the piece gave the artist a chance for a better life?
Ten Thousand Villages of Boise is giving you a chance to have that kind of comfort and knowledge about your decorating choices. They are hosting a special fair trade Oriental Rug event, featuring hand-knotted Oriental rugs from Pakistan made by fairly paid adults. The rugs, which are made by artisans in their homes, will be for sale at Hyde Park Mennonite Fellowship, located at 1520 North 12th Street on May 13-16.
In addition to the rug sale, an Introduction to Oriental Rugs seminar is being offered at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 at Hyde Park Mennonite Fellowship. Admission is free, but reservations are encouraged by contacting Ten Thousand Villages in Boise at 208-333-0535.
The rugs are designed and crafted by an artisan group in Pakistan known as Bunyaad, which works to create strong foundations in the villages of Pakistan by paying a fair wage to its more than 850 artisan families.
Ten Thousand Villages is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. It is a nonprofit program of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
